About Woodhouse West
Woodhouse West Primary School is a 3 to 11 primary school with 334 children, situated on the southeastern suburbs of Sheffield, on the edge of the old village of Woodhouse. The school grounds offer large green areas nestling in a location which enhances outdoor learning with its proximity to the Shirebrook Valley, part of the South Yorkshire Forest.
We pride ourselves on presenting a warm and welcoming environment to all. As a school we want parents and families to feel this is their school and we have worked hard to ensure Woodhouse West is an integral part of the community. This is very important to us, and together we work to provide exceptional provision for our children.
Our staff is a good mix of long standing and newer recruits who work enthusiastically together, delivering high quality teaching noted by Ofsted in March 2009.
The integrated curriculum, based on questioning, which was highlighted as Outstanding by Ofsted, has motivated our children. Out of school visits and interesting guests are a big part of bringing this curriculum to life. Opportunities to extend learning out of school range from short hops to the great facilities around us, to a variety of residential visits.
An above average number of pupils are eligible for free school meals and the proportion of pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities is high. As an inclusive school, the facilities we provide are important to our community. We work hard to engage with parents. The recent Ofsted inspection judged the school as Good, in the area of Care, Guidance and Support.
Our newly opened Children’s Centre, which is managed by the Headteacher, offers integrated support for families in both health and education. Currently we have 3 parent and toddler groups, and a variety of parent courses which are attracting an ever increasing number of participants.
The retirement of our current Headteacher presents the opportunity to lead our school forward from a strong position, whilst still having a variety of projects you can develop.
